Skincare is a category that can consist of so many favorites because I have a different day and night skincare routine, but I’ve narrowed it down to a few of my essential favorites. Generally speaking of course, not all products that work for me will work the same way for you. Even those with the same skin type as me have chances of not performing similarly, so just be aware.
Disclaimer: I currently have dry/ acne prone skin with a good amount of acne scarring.
Like I’ve said in multiple posts, I always double cleanse as in first start off with an oil based cleanser, and then move towards a water-based cleanser. This year I discovered Shiseido and Tatcha. They both have great cleansing products, so I would say Tatcha takes the win. I love the Shiseido Cleansing Cream, but the Tatcha One Step Camellia Cleansing Oil removes the makeup significantly better.
I recently received some samples of the Indie Lee COQ-10 cleanser as well and it’s by far one of the best toners I’ve used. It is rather pricey, but you do get what you pay for. I also liked this brightening toner from Shiseido. It feels great on the skin and helped with my acne scars as did the Indie Lee toner.
The St.Ives Blemish Control Scrub is actually a drugstore favorite of mine for years now. I can’t find anything that’s better, especially for the price. I heard about their recent lawsuit though about it being too harsh on the skin. I’ve been using this for years now and I don’t think my skin has gotten worse because of it? I’ve been trying to find a good chemical peel but they’re all kind of meh. For a gentle exfoliator, try the Tatcha Rice Enyzme Powder!
I love the Borghese Fango Mask, Glam-glow EVERYTHING in terms of mud masks, and sheet masks. I love the Innisfree masks the most because they’re affordable, high quality, and don’t leave your face sticky or make you break out. I have a full review of some of these here!
The only essence I’ve really used is this Clinique Even Better Essence Lotion and it really helps significantly more than the serum itself haha. Tatcha just launched an essence… I really want/need it asap but it’s so expensive 🙁 Tatcha, help a college student out please.
My typical, since high school moisturizer is the Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer, but this Tatcha Moisture Rich Silk Cream is insanely good. It’s so creamy, but also suitable for any season? It’s magical, but also comes at a depressingly steep price. Tip? Buy the travel sized first to test it out. Warning: It is dangerous because you will fall in love with it and have to buy the full sized cream..
The only eye cream that I’ve really used this year is the Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Eye Synchronized Complex II. It isn’t bad but isn’t great. It’s very very expensive, so I might try the Tatcha eye serum now. If I’m going to go in blindly and buy a pricey eye product, I’d rather opt for a brand I trust.
The Klairs Mid-Day Blue Sun Lotion and Dr. Jart Every Sun Day UV Sun Fluid sun creams were both killer this year. If you want one with absolutely no white cast and decent coverage, go for Dr. Jart. If you want higher coverage like SPF 50, the Klairs is so creamy and easy to blend. It also doesn’t have a significantly noticeable white cast. If you use foundation, it gets covered up!
I did this in the sequence of a typical Korean 10 Step Skincare Regime, but that also does not mean that I do every one of these steps every single day. Don’t overdo it with the products! It took me forever to single out my favorites haha which is why this post took so long to write.
Have a Happy New Year!
